The Bar

what is a kava bar?

A kava bar is an alcohol-free bar that serves drink options made from various plant-based, herbal alternatives. While these drinks may provide refreshment and hydration, they are primarily consumed for their physical and mental benefits. Which product you should choose depends on the effects you are hoping to achieve!

Our Products

  • Kava is a plant in the black pepper family (Piper methysticum) that grows exclusively in the Pacific Islands. The roots of the plant have been consumed by humans for thousands of years as a method of relieving stress and anxiety. Kava roots contain a variety of compounds called kavalactones, which affect the GABA receptors in the brain and can act as a natural antidepressant. Kavalactones also affect the central nervous system, which can provide a feeling of mild physical relaxation. For these reasons, kava is often considered an excellent alternative to alcohol. Drinking kava can result in feelings of euphoria and can "take the edge off"in similar ways to alcohol, but without the negative side effects (like hangovers or erratic behavior). At most dosages kava doesn’t affect motor skills or alter the ability to think clearly and function normally, which makes it a safe and effective social drink option.

  • Cannabidiol (CBD) is a compound that is derived from hemp plants, and can also be found in cannabis/marijuana. CBD produces a calm, relaxing sensation without the "high" that is associated with Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Broad-spectrum CBD products contain some additional compounds and cannabinoids, with only minor traces of THC (<0.0%). Full-spectrum CBD contains even more of the beneficial compounds naturally found in hemp and cannabis, and can legally contain up to 0.03% THC. Consuming any amount of broad-spectrum or full-spectrum CBD could result in a positive test result for THC on a drug test, depending on the quantity and frequency at which it is consumed.

  • Kratom is a plant in the coffee family (Mitragyna speciosa) that is native to Indonesia. Kratom is more stimulating than CBD or kava, and many people perceive it to be more intense. Kratom contains different alkaloids that affect the opioid receptors in the brain, which can have varying effects on the body. Most people perceive white kratom to provide a boost of energy, red kratom to help with relaxation and pain relief, and green kratom to do a little of both, primarily relieving anxiety and causing euphoria. Kratom is an excellent tool for achieving these effects, but it is important to pay attention to dosage. While overdoses are non-lethal (compared to many other opiates), they can cause nausea and vomiting. Continued daily usage can also result in dependency. For these reasons we recommend starting with small doses, slow consumption, and multi-day breaks after periods of continued consumption.

Love this spot to hang out and sip on a non-alcoholic beverage, whether socializing or finishing out the workday. The staff is awesome, friendly, inviting, and they're great educators about all things kava!
